Set in the Viking village of Berk, the story follows Hiccup, the awkward son of Chief Stoick, who struggles to fit into a society devoted to fighting Dragons. After unexpectedly shooting down a feared Night Fury named Toothless, Hiccup discovers that Dragons are not the enemies everyone believes them to be. As he secretly befriends and helps Toothless fly again, Hiccup learns about Dragon behavior and begins excelling in Dragon training, confusing and impressing the villagers—especially Astrid, a fierce young Viking recruit. Together, Hiccup and Astrid uncover that the Dragons have been stealing from Berk only because they are controlled by the terrifying Red Death. When Stoick captures Toothless and leads an attack on the Dragon nest, Hiccup and the other recruits must unite with the Dragons to stop the Red Death and save both worlds. In the end, Hiccup proves that understanding and compassion are stronger than fear, and Berk becomes a place where Vikings and Dragons live together in harmony.
